In these two depicted photos, it relates to the hunger that will be experienced during the post apocalyptic time. Food will be scarce and people will be forced to find food for themselves. The food remaining will be gone within a short time, and many shelves will look like this...empty.
Water supply will be little to none. People could be searching in wells like this for anything to drink, no matter how unclean it remains. In the book The Road, the father and son search desperately for anything to drink, even if it means it could harm their health.
With water becoming scarce, nature will begin to die and not much will live anymore. Again, much like in The Road, the voice explains how the earth looks dull and dead. Nothing stands out and everything is very dry. It’s either cold and dry or hot and dry. Storms arrive constantly and are a threat to their survival. If it’s not people tormenting the father and son, it’s the weather.
Power. It’s what we need to live, to run our technology, and to run everything...to run our lives. As years go on hydro will be shut off and destroyed because there will be one to run it. Lines will fall and be destroyed because of the storms. Fallen lines with power still running could create large fires and explosions with the dead, dry earth.
The people who are left – those who haven’t died or committed suicide – will be left to search for anything to defend themselves. This could include, knives, blades, chains, guns, anything heavy enough to knock someone out or even kill them. In The Road, the father and son are always searching for anything to use as a weapon of self-defence.
Near the end, not much will remain. The earth could appear empty, broken, and dirty. In The Road the voice explains that everything is ransacked. Bodies are strewn everywhere and the open area is empty and barren. Trees have been cut down for fire wood, and you can see for miles.
In The Road, the father and son are travelling along a road leading south. The voice explains that they’re searching for a town where supposedly there’s human life. There’s a food supply and people are creating a place where it’s safe.
In the end, humans will search for a place that will be able to sustain them. A place that will feel like home and nothing will threaten their existence. In The Road the voice explains that the father and son are heading to the south coast because they heard there was a community there. A community that was safe to go to. In the end, the father never made it, and the son was forced to go south without him. The son was forced to trust strangers to help him find the community.
