she sat down on her bed one evening and turned on the TV, flipped through the channels and found one that she was familiar with. the day hadn't been good. neither had the last few. actually, she thought, days haven't been good for a long time.
she begins to lose her train of thought and watches the overrated show. it was the typical teenage show. boy meets girl, girl likes boy, something bad happens, girl breaks up with boy, etc. etc. etc.
when the show neared its end for the evening something caught her attention and triggered. it triggered something that she didn't know existed, but it happened to be there. she didn't even know that she could be triggered.
the next morning when she awoke she dressed as usual but put on more that normal. when she looked down she saw marks. marks that show signs of death, emotional death and physical.
this continued for a year and a half.
clean.
she didn't think she'd ever get to know that word. it's refreshing, it's new, and it's forgiving. they've disappeared. the marks that bared all for all to see are gone. she doesn't know how, and doesn't know why, but she's thankful.
after growing up and learning, she's come to realize that those marks from long ago - the marks of death - are no longer holding her back. the marks helped her live. helped her find herself, and helped her find others.
these marks that brought pain long ago, are now signs of living. marks of living.
